Wearing your hair in a natural state is not an excuse to avoid taking care of your body. By that I mean working out. 

The most common reasons stated by women for not working out are: avoiding itching and dandruff, as well as maintaining their hairstyle. But it’s 2014, so let’s put excuses to the side and #letsdothis!

Before the workout, to maintain your hairstyle, you can wear your tresses in a high bun, braids, twists or cornrows. I tried working out with a bantu knot out. It was a big mistake, I ended up with a lot of shrinkage! I learned my lesson, now I just rock a bun at the gym.

After that good workout session, to avoid itching and dandruff, you need to wash your hair to get rid of the dirt, toxins and salt.

For the sceptics, these are a few reasons why you should exercise regularly:

  • It prevents hair from drying out, which is a major cause of breakage.
  • It helps to maintain a healthy body: in addition to a healthy diet (please let’s not forget what we put in our body), having a healthy body gives you a great chance to get healthier hair.
  • It releases stress: it reduces hair loss caused by stress. As we all know, stress is not really a good friend of our hair.
